Solution Overview

Point-to-point microwave (PtP)

Dedicated high-performance connections between two locations

Point-to-point microwave links enable the direct coupling of two network locations via an exclusive wireless connection. By using licensed or license-free frequency bands, high transmission rates can be achieved with low latency and high availability.

This technology is particularly suitable for connecting corporate sites, linking data centers, or serving as an independent transmission path to secure existing fiber optic infrastructure. Modern carrier-class systems support multi-gigabit transmission rates and availability of up to 99.995%.

Typical use cases

  • Enterprise-wide site networking (WAN)
  • Data Center Interconnect (DCI)
  • Fiber optic redundancy
  • Internet uplink for critical infrastructure
  • Backbone connections

Advantages

  • ✓ Dedicated bandwidth without a shared medium
  • ✓ Low latency for real-time applications
  • ✓ High availability through redundant radio paths
  • ✓ Rapid implementation without civil engineering work

Point-to-multipoint microwave (PtMP)

Scalable wireless infrastructures for distributed locations

Point-to-multipoint architectures allow multiple participants to connect to a central base station. Communication takes place via sectorized radio cells, enabling large areas to be covered efficiently.

This technology is frequently used in campus networks, industrial facilities, smart city infrastructures, as well as municipal and energy sector applications. Thanks to modern QoS mechanisms, VLAN integration, and central management systems, even complex network requirements can be reliably implemented.

Typical use cases

  • Smart metering
  • Smart City
  • IoT networks
  • Industrial and factory premises
  • Municipal infrastructure
  • Video surveillance

Advantages

  • ✓ Cost-effective connection for multiple participants
  • ✓ Centralized administration of the infrastructure
  • ✓ High scalability as the number of users grows
  • ✓ Flexible expansion of existing radio networks

Carrier-class microwave and backhaul networks

High-availability transport networks for business-critical applications

Carrier-class microwave forms the foundation of high-performance backhaul and transport networks for network operators, municipal utilities, and companies with the highest demands for availability and performance.

State-of-the-art microwave and millimeter-wave systems are used, featuring adaptive modulation, XPIC (Cross Polarization Interference Cancellation) technology, link aggregation, and redundant system architectures. This allows large volumes of data to be transmitted over distances of several kilometers with maximum operational reliability.

In addition to classic IP/Ethernet services, the systems also support the connection of critical voice, video, and control networks.

Typical use cases

  • Provider backbone
  • Mobile backhaul
  • Municipal utilities and energy providers
  • Critical infrastructure (KRITIS)
  • Control center connections
  • Data center networking

Advantages

  • ✓ Carrier-grade availability
  • ✓ Transmission rates in the double-digit gigabit range
  • ✓ High reliability through redundancy concepts
  • ✓ Future-proof transport platform for IP-based services

Temporary microwave solutions

Instantly available broadband connections for time-critical projects

Temporary microwave links offer a fast alternative when wired infrastructure cannot be provided in time or is only intended for a limited period of use.

Using mobile mast systems and pre-configured radio technology, high-performance data connections can be deployed in a very short time. This solution is suitable both as a transitional technology until fiber optics are completed and for temporary deployment scenarios with increased bandwidth requirements.

Typical use cases

  • Construction site communication
  • Large-scale events
  • Trade fairs and events
  • Disaster relief
  • Temporary business locations
  • Fiber optic bridging

Advantages

  • ✓ Rapid commissioning within a few days
  • ✓ No permanent infrastructure measures required
  • ✓ Flexible adaptation to changing requirements
  • ✓ High bandwidths even at hard-to-reach locations

Broadband access for every customer

The use of wireless transmission media offers service providers a unique, complementary solution to fiber-optic infrastructure!

Numerous telecommunications providers (especially mobile network operators) have been successfully relying on carrier-class microwave systems for years. In particular, data backhaul for the constantly increasing number of mobile cell towers is very often handled via professional microwave links. The arguments are clear:

Microwave is implemented very quickly – often before fiber-optic connections are completed.
Microwave creates the necessary redundancy and thus increases overall availability.
Low investment – low operating costs.

In addition, professional microwave technology offers service providers significant added value:

Closing white spots that cannot be economically reached with a wired solution.
Closing white spots before a fiber-optic connection is completed. Securing customer relationships before fiber-optic expansion is finished.
Creating media-neutral redundant connections. If the wired line fails, microwave ensures broadband supply.

The German government's broadband initiative also provides financial support for the expansion of broadband technology. Internet service providers often face significant challenges in ensuring timely broadband coverage due to missing or outdated cable infrastructure. Microwave technology can often close these coverage gaps quickly and economically.

Given the need to meet completion deadlines to avoid the repayment of subsidies, or simply to provide services to customers quickly, microwave technology is more than just a bridge technology.
